Families struggling to pay for rent and groceries often cannot afford anything else. Basic items for their children–properly fitting outfits for school, diapers, a backpack, shoes, pajamas, a coat for cold weather–are simply not possible.

Cradles to Crayons’ mission and model enable our volunteers and donors to turn compassion into action and provide the essential items children in need to thrive at school, participate fully in life, and simply be a kid.

October PROST - Educational Series and Networking Reception

Welcome to the Hampshire House, a turn-of-the-century mansion on historic Beacon Hill, where generations of Bostonians and their guests have wined, dined, and danced the night away. 

Commissioned by the illustrious Bayard and Ruth Thayer, the Hampshire House offers sweeping views of the Boston Public Garden. This traditional Brahmin mansion was designed and completed construction in 1911 by architect Ogden Codman Jr., known for his designs on several Newport Mansions, including The Breakers and Land's End. 

This five-story Georgian revival townhouse was lavished with Italian marble, carved oak paneling, crystal chandeliers, and tall Palladian windows. Our windows not only looked out onto the Victorian elegance of the Boston Public Garden, but they also witnessed the secret social world of Boston’s elite. Mrs. Thayer’s residence at 84 Beacon Street quickly became the preeminent salon in the city – a place to see and be seen. Gentlemen in top hats and tails and ladies in silk and satin ascended the grand staircase to the heart of the house for gala evenings in the Ballroom and Library. 

The Thayer family’s children continued residence into the 1930s. By the late 40s, the owners of the Lincolnshire Hotel on Charles, introduced the building to the public as a small private luxury hotel. They dubbed the mansion the Hampshire House (Lincolnshire and Hampshire were both English counties). 

Thomas A. Kershaw became the owner of The Hampshire House in 1969. Throughout the years, he opened it to the public as a restaurant and eventually an exclusive event venue for numerous occasions. The interior decor captures the aura of those grand days when the Thayers entertained in their magnificent mansion in Beacon Hill.  Now you, too, can be a part of history at the Hampshire House.

Join us at our very first PROST New England Sleepover! We look forward to having a fun weekend with you. This event is for PROST New England members only.

Chatham Bars Inn is Cape Cod’s most beloved and storied oceanfront destination for family vacations, romantic getaways, and corporate retreats. First opened as a luxury hunting lodge for wealthy Bostonians in 1914, today it is a full-service year-round resort with 217 individually decorated rooms and suites, endless recreational options, exceptional dining, and an exclusive wellness spa.

We have a special nightly group rate of $199 + $12 resort fee and applicable taxes. After completing this registration, you will receive a confirmation from the Inn within one week to provide your credit card to guarantee and submit your preferences.

Our standard registration fee covers the welcome dinner. If you would like to bring additional guests to the welcome dinner, please purchase the corresponding number of tickets in the next screen. If your guest is simply sharing your room, registration/ticket is not required. Children 12 and under do not need a ticket to join our dinner should you wish to bring them along. We are tentatively planning to have educational sessions from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday followed by reception/dinner. Breakfast is at your leisure the next morning before a group activity from 9am to 11am. Final agenda will be shared two weeks prior to the event.

Give back to the community and volunteer with us at the Giving Factory of Cradles to Crayons. A family-style Italian lunch will be served at MIDA Newton afterwards. Volunteering is from 10am to noon followed right away by lunch.

Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities.
